Chapter 11: Tertiary power supplies (batteries, UPS, inverters) – NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition)

NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition) 11.1-11.8: Battery selection, environment, charging and temperature alarms

Tertiary supplies are backup for a limited autonomy or to start secondary supplies, not long-term sources. VRLA batteries (BS EN 60896-21 and -22, threaded insert posts, flame-retardant cases) are usual for UPS; their life falls sharply above about 20 C (about half at 30 C, a quarter at 40 C) and overheating creates fire risk, so battery locations need suitable ventilation or cooling. In practice VRLA batteries are replaced at about 80% of design life. Chargers should meet standards and the battery maker's requirements, and remote temperature alarms in battery locations should be considered.

What else in your programme already covers this

This control maps to 2 controls across 1 other frameworks. If you already hold one of them, the evidence you collected for it is the starting point here rather than new work.

  • 5.1 5.1 Energy sources and battery installation
  • 7.3 7.3 Heating, cooling, ventilating and humidity control

Every mapping shown was judged rather than inferred from wording similarity, and the ones that failed review are published too. See the coverage reports and what was rejected.
