Chapter 11: Tertiary power supplies (batteries, UPS, inverters) – NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition)

NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition) 11.63-11.67: Central battery units and theatre lamp inverters

Central battery inverter wiring should be of enhanced grade (BS 5839-1); units should be connected to the secondary supply and energise all connected escape lighting and signs within 5 s (BS 5266), and have maintenance bypass switches that isolate charger and batteries while keeping the output supplied. Every theatre needs a dedicated inverter battery unit, sited outside the theatre and serving only its operating lamps.
