Chapter 11: Tertiary power supplies (batteries, UPS, inverters) – NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition)

NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition) 11.9-11.15: Split battery banks and string monitoring to allow maintenance on line

Designers should plan for maintenance of UPS and inverter batteries: split banks let the unit stay on line (with reduced autonomy) while half is serviced, and replacement during operation should be considered to limit disruption. Battery cell or string monitoring and alarms should be considered where appropriate.
