Clause 6.8: Community involvement and development – ISO 26000:2010

ISO 26000:2010 6.8.5: Community involvement and development issue 3: Employment creation and skills development

What does 6.8.5 require?

An organization should study how its investment choices affect job creation and, where it makes economic sense, invest directly in ways that reduce poverty by creating work. It should consider: how its choice of technology affects jobs, choosing job-rich technologies where that is viable over the longer run; how outsourcing affects employment both inside the organization and in the outside organizations concerned; the advantages of direct employment compared with temporary arrangements; taking part in local and national skills schemes such as apprenticeships, programmes aimed at disadvantaged groups, lifelong learning, and recognition and certification of skills; and helping to create or strengthen community skills programmes where they fall short, perhaps with partners. It should pay particular attention to vulnerable groups when hiring and building capacity, and consider fostering the wider conditions that allow jobs to be created.
