Each person a registered firm designates as a responsible managing employee holds a licence from the state fire marshal and carries proof of it while acting as RME; lost licences are replaced on written notice and fee; a change of employer, home or mailing address requires a revised licence within 14 days. An RME may act only while on the payroll of a registered firm with a current licence, licences are not transferable, and the firm notifies the marshal within 14 days when an RME leaves. Licence types are RME-General (any sprinkler system as planned, installed, maintained or serviced meets the legal standards), RME-Dwelling (one- and two-family dwelling systems), RME-Underground Fire Main (underground mains as installed, maintained or serviced) and RME-General Inspector (inspection, test and maintenance service to the adopted standards).
