Texas State Fire Marshal Rules (28 TAC Chapter 34, Subchapters C, E, F and G) 34.517-a: Portable extinguishers installed and serviced to the manufacturer's instructions and the adopted standards, with a service tag on completion

What does 34.517-a require?

Portable extinguishers are installed, serviced and maintained in line with the manufacturer's instructions and the standards adopted in the subchapter, unless the work follows a standard the local political subdivision has adopted. A service tag certifying the licensee's work is securely attached when the work is done. On the owner's written request an extinguisher without an approved laboratory listing may still be serviced where it is a Coast Guard-serviced extinguisher on a foreign vessel, a DOT-serviced carbon dioxide extinguisher, or a cartridge-operated extinguisher used only by the owner firm's employees; the back of the tag is then marked No Listing Mark and every missing marking, symbol and instruction the performance and fire test standards require, other than the listing mark, is restored by label.
