A registered firm establishes and maintains a shop, at its business location or in a purpose-designed mobile unit, equipped to service or test every extinguisher or system it installs and services. As a minimum it holds the most recently adopted NFPA 10, the Insurance Code chapter and these rules, a list of the makes and types it services with their manuals or parts lists, a portable scale for gross weights, seals or tamper indicators, and temporary replacement extinguishers. Firms doing annual maintenance on carbon dioxide extinguishers add a conductivity tester and test labels; firms doing internal maintenance keep the valve tools, charging adapters, lubricants, spare parts, recharge agents, fill funnels, an internal inspection light, a dry chemical recovery system or fresh chemical, leak test equipment, nitrogen cylinders with regulator and calibrated gauges, verification collars and six-year maintenance labels, or hold a written notice naming the registered firm that performs that maintenance for them; firms doing hydrostatic tests keep a test pump with flexible connection, check valves and fittings, a protective cage, calibrated gauges, drying equipment, a test log and test labels, or a written notice naming the firm that tests for them; firms maintaining DOT specification extinguishers hold a current Type C registration or a notice naming the Type C firm that will test when required.
