Licences come in four types. PL covers the planning, supervision, certification, installation and service of engineered fixed systems and everything the other types cover; A covers certifying or servicing engineered fixed system installations, all work on pre-engineered systems, and certifying and servicing portables; B covers portable service, certification and low-pressure hydrostatic testing; K covers pre-engineered cooking-area systems and portables. A licensee carries proof of licensure while working, obtains a duplicate for a lost licence, and notifies the state fire marshal within 14 days of a change of registered firm or mailing address with the fee. Licensees may work only while on the payroll of a registered firm with a current licence; licences cannot be transferred; firms report a licensee's departure to the marshal within 14 days; and Type A and K licences go only to people who have held an apprentice permit or a Type B licence, or another state's fixed-system licence, for at least six months.
