Part 10: egg food safety scheme and the Salmonella Enteritidis licence condition (sections 157 to 179, Schedule 8) – NSW Food Regulation 2025
NSW Food Regulation 2025 Sch 8 cl 8: Document and run a vermin control strategy: rodent proofing, risk-based numbered and mapped bait stations out of poultry reach, a 3 metre cleared buffer, wild bird exclusion, recorded checks and secure dead bird disposal
What does Sch 8 cl 8 require?
The licensee documents, develops and implements a vermin control strategy covering: all practical steps to stop rodents entering or living in poultry housing, egg handling, packaging, feed and litter storage; bait stations placed at regular intervals around the production area on the basis of a rodent risk assessment, never where poultry can reach, enough to control activity, numbered and mapped, checked at risk-based intervals and rebaited; records of each inspection and every action; and removal of vermin habitat inside the area and in a buffer of at least 3 metres where practicable. Buildings in the area are built and maintained to keep out wild birds and limit and deny harbourage to vermin, and dead birds are stored and disposed of so vermin and other animals cannot reach them.
This control maps to 2 controls across 1 other frameworks. If you already hold one of them, the evidence you collected for it is the starting point here rather than new work.
