Chapter 9: Secondary power centres and plant (standby generators) – NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition)

NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition) 9.89-9.92: Exhaust, noise, operational safety and controlled disposal of consumables

Exhaust systems should be silenced, discharge away from openings, air intakes and clinical areas, be lagged where hot surfaces are a hazard and allow for condensation; installations must meet the Clean Air Act and local authority, fire and environmental requirements. Sets should run on low-sulphur fuel; noise 1 m from the enclosure should be below 85 dBA (lower where locally needed) and a work risk assessment should decide PPE. Operational procedures should control hot surfaces, rotating parts (guarded), battery acid (handling and spill clean-up), antifreeze spills, noise above 105 dBA near the set (ear protection essential) and generation voltages (covers in place). Batteries, lubricating oil and antifreeze replaced in maintenance should go through an enforced safe disposal policy with an audit trail.

What else in your programme already covers this

This control maps to 2 controls across 1 other frameworks. If you already hold one of them, the evidence you collected for it is the starting point here rather than new work.

  • 7.10 7.10 Exhaust system
  • 7.4-7.6 7.4 to 7.6 Mounting, vibration and noise

Every mapping shown was judged rather than inferred from wording similarity, and the ones that failed review are published too. See the coverage reports and what was rejected.
