Secondary supplies should always be able to power the areas that let the facility keep essential functions going and keep patients safe; those areas are to be fixed during design with all stakeholders including the Group, using the risk grades. Phased developments should design in the final secondary supply where practicable. For island-mode generators serving only segregated essential services, a four-pole main autochangeover rated for the full load is required: normally the DNO feeds the essential board through the main switchboard, and in an emergency the generator feeds only the essential board.
