Chapter 9: Secondary power centres and plant (standby generators) – NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition)

NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition) 9.45-9.53: Mains failure detection and automatic start and connection timing

Operating modes should be clearly defined. Under-voltage should be detected on every phase at the point of common coupling (at the intake where generators cover the full essential load, otherwise at the relevant switchboard), so that loss of any single phase starts the essential generators. The set should start automatically on total failure or prolonged voltage deviation, after a confirmation delay of 0.5 to 6 s, and connect to supported circuits within 15 s after that; the generator breaker should close at 95% of nominal voltage and frequency before the autochangeover operates, and the first load step should be below the set's acceptance limit. Motor and inductive loads should be started with a time delay. Secondary sources must not feed back into the PES on its loss.

What else in your programme already covers this

This control maps to 2 controls across 1 other frameworks. If you already hold one of them, the evidence you collected for it is the starting point here rather than new work.

  • 6.2.1-6.2.4 6.2.1 to 6.2.4 ATS operation, source monitoring, interlocking and manual operation
  • 6.2.5-6.2.10 6.2.5 to 6.2.10 ATS time delays

Every mapping shown was judged rather than inferred from wording similarity, and the ones that failed review are published too. See the coverage reports and what was rejected.
