NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition) 7.25-7.68: HV and LV network configurations matched to assessed risk

Sites with assumed maximum demand above 800 kVA need an internal HV network (radial up to about 3.5 MVA, ring above). The HV and LV configurations are presented in rising order of resilience and are chosen from the DNO arrangement, the type of facility and the assessed risk. All LV distributions should be TN systems (combined neutral and earth in the installation is prohibited by the ESQCR). Essential distribution circuits should be fire-protected, with life-safety circuits fire-rated or fire-protected. Ratings of transformers, generators, switchgear and main cables should cover the assumed maximum demand plus growth. Each option's capacity for expansion should be assessed; mixed sites may combine options.
