The designer should provide for power factor and harmonics to keep regulatory compliance, considering fixed power quality monitoring. Power-factor correction at the intake should disconnect automatically if the primary supply is lost and, if used with standby generators or CHP, be set to the generator maker's recommendations. Systems should keep reflected total harmonic distortion within ENA G5/4 limits. A network analysis of harmonic currents should be made and passed to the standby generator supplier so the generator design reflects them, and only active or isolating passive filters should be in use while the generator is on line; passive filters at the intake should be disconnected automatically when generators carry the load.
