Group 2 lighting circuits need 30 mA RCD protection. All switches, outlets and controls should carry permanent circuit identification and contrast visually with their background. Lighting circuits should be radial with protective devices of at most 10 A; lighting control systems should be agreed with stakeholders and the Group, risk-assessed, and arranged so one controller failure cannot affect both lighting circuits. Rooms of grade C and above should have at least two lighting circuits from two sources, one on the secondary supply, and clinical lighting should be supported by the secondary supply for standby lighting. Lighting circuits should not be on Medical IT.
