Chapter 15: Final circuits – NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition)

NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition) 15.31-15.62: Patient environment, outlet placement, imaging supplies, theatre panels and emergency power off

Within the patient environment touch voltages must be kept within the Medical Location limits. Outlets and switches should suit their environment, sit at least 0.2 m from medical gas terminal units, and be visually distinguishable by supply source. USB chargers integrated in 13 A sockets should not be installed; stand-alone USB points should meet BS EN 62684 and BS EN 62680-1-1. Imaging and interventional supplies should be designed with the maker, with agreed supply impedance, dedicated circuits and means to isolate and lock off. Theatre control panels should show secondary supply status (generator available, building on generator, UPS available, mains fail or UPS running). Emergency power off buttons required by ME makers should be protected against accidental operation, double-pole where a UPS must also be shut down, and clearly labelled.
