NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition) 15.14-15.30: Medical IT systems in Group 2 locations: monitoring, UPS support and outlet identification

Medical IT transformers should meet BS EN 61558-2-15; an insulation monitor should alert clinical staff to a first fault, with insulation fault location to BS EN 61557-9 considered and staff trained to act at once; a suitable UPS should feed Medical IT where supply is critical to life; Medical IT and associated UPS circuits are safety circuits; a pair of interleaved circuits or Medical IT systems is recommended, subject to risk assessment, with automatic transfer systems assessed for safety integrity (BS EN 61508). Group 2 socket-outlets for patient-critical ME equipment should be on Medical IT, unswitched, blue and marked 'Medical Equipment Only'; each outlet should identify its circuit; indicator lamps should not be used on outlets in Medical Locations.
