Workplaces must be ventilated so work can be carried out without risk. Fresh, clean air should be drawn from outside, away from flues and outlets, and circulated. Natural ventilation should come from permanent openings that in total equal at least five per cent of the room's floor area and open to the sky, an open covered area or a ventilated adjoining room. Air-conditioning should give comfortable temperature, humidity and air movement, prevent odour build-up, reduce carbon dioxide and other contaminants and supply fresh air. Enclosed workplaces should have air movement usually between 0.1 and 0.2 metres per second.
