Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing the Work Environment and Facilities 2.2: 2.2 Lay out work areas with clear space to move, work and evacuate

Work areas should have clear space between furniture, fixtures and fittings so workers can move freely without strain or injury and evacuate quickly, with space for aisles, passages and access in addition to workstation space. Space is set by considering the physical actions of the task, the need to move and pass others without contact, sitting or standing work, balancing privacy with visibility or natural surveillance, access to workstations, equipment used and PPE worn. Heat or noise, manual tasks and tools such as knives or long implements call for more space.
