Work should be set up as seated, standing or a mix, avoiding long periods of either, and workers must be consulted when a workstation assessment is done. Workstations should allow a comfortable upright position with relaxed shoulders and upper arms close to the body, with adjustable arrangements for different working heights. Seated work needs seating with good body support especially for the lower back, foot support, and leg clearance. Chairs should be fully adjustable (seat height, backrest height and tilt), stable (a five-point base is most stable), use castors on carpet and glides or braked castors on hard floors, and sit/stand chairs or seating should be offered where standing tasks allow it.
