Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing Risks of Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace
Section 1: Duties, prohibited chemicals, exposure standards, register and manifest – Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing Risks of Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace

Australia Model Code of Practice: Managing Risks of Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace 1.4: 1.4 Respect prohibited and restricted hazardous chemicals (Schedule 10)

The WHS Regulations prohibit or restrict the use, storage or handling of certain hazardous chemicals in specified situations. For example substances containing arsenic must not be used in spray painting or abrasive blasting, and carcinogens such as 4-nitrodiphenyl are prohibited from all uses except genuine research or analysis authorised by the regulator. Some chemicals may be used, handled or stored only after approval from the regulator. Schedule 10 (Appendix C of the code) lists the prohibited carcinogens, restricted carcinogens and restricted hazardous chemicals, and there is also a restriction on the age of a person who can supply hazardous chemicals.
