The employer must pay a casual employee a loading of 25% on top of the minimum hourly rate for each hour worked, in place of entitlements casuals do not receive; casual overtime and penalty rates are those in Tables 11 and 12 of the current award (consolidated to 1 July 2026, read 30 September 2026). The minimum daily engagement of a casual is 3 hours, or 1.5 hours only where a full-time secondary school student works between 3.00 pm and 6.30 pm on a school day, agrees with their parent's or guardian's approval to work less than 3 hours, and longer work is not possible because of operational requirements or their unavailability. Casuals must be paid at the end of each engagement or weekly or fortnightly in line with other employees' pay arrangements.
