Part 4: Wages and Allowances – Australia Electrical, Electronic and Communications Contracting Award 2020 (MA000025)

Australia Electrical, Electronic and Communications Contracting Award 2020 (MA000025) 18.5a: 18.5(a) Supply a meal or pay the meal allowance for unnotified overtime of 2 hours or more

An employee required to work 2 or more hours of overtime without being told on the previous day or earlier must either receive a meal from the employer or be paid the meal allowance in clause 18.5(a) of the current award (consolidated to 1 July 2026, read 30 September 2026) for the first meal and each later meal. The rule is excluded for an employee living in the locality of the job who can reasonably eat at home. Unless the employer has warned the employee a day or more ahead that the overtime will need a second or later meal, the employee must be given those meals or paid instead. An employee who brought meals because of notice and then works no overtime, or less than advised, must be paid for the surplus meals.
