Employees are paid the weekly industry allowance set out in clause 18.3(a) of the current award (consolidated to 1 July 2026, read 30 September 2026), as an all-purpose allowance compensating the disabilities of on-site work: working in the open in all climatic conditions, climbing stairs and ladders, wind-blown dust and fumes, brick dust and drips from fresh concrete, sloppy and muddy early construction conditions, working on all scaffolding types other than swing scaffolding, and lacking the permanent amenities of factory work. Apprentices receive the percentage set by clause 16.4.
