Victoria Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 r78: r 78 Designer must provide suitable operator controls

A designer must ensure the design provides operator controls that are clearly identified on the plant as to their nature and function, placed so each user can operate them readily and conveniently, positioned or shielded so they cannot be activated unintentionally, and capable of being locked in the off position so all motive power can be disconnected. Where running the plant during maintenance or cleaning cannot be avoided, the design must also provide controls that allow that operation, that only the person doing the maintenance or cleaning can use, and that let the plant run so that the risk to that person is eliminated as far as reasonably practicable or, where it cannot be eliminated, reduced as far as reasonably practicable.
