Every mine operator must devise and put in place strategies to protect people at the mine from health and safety risks caused by anyone consuming alcohol or using drugs, including controls on alcohol and drugs being present or used at the mine in working hours. The operator must also keep out of the mine, or remove from it, any person it considers to be adversely affected by drugs or alcohol, and must ensure drugs are used at the mine only if prescribed by a registered medical practitioner who has authorised their use there. A person is adversely affected when impaired judgement or capacity may expose themselves or another person to risk.
