Every employer and self-employed person must make sure a hazardous substance listed in Schedule 6 is not used at their workplace for the purpose that Schedule names; currently that is abrasive blasting with material containing more than 1% crystalline silica. The same applies to any substance the Authority has determined under r 6 to be prohibited for a purpose (such determinations are gazetted, advertised in a Victorian newspaper and made available for inspection). The duty supports sections 21, 23 and 24 of the Act.
