Victoria Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 r149: r 149 Manufacturers and importing suppliers must label containers

Before any workplace receives a hazardous substance, the substance's manufacturer or importing supplier has to label every container of it correctly. The label must show the product identifier; the Australian manufacturer's or importing supplier's name, address and phone number; the identity and proportion of each ingredient disclosed as Schedule 8 requires; every hazard pictogram; and each signal word, hazard statement and precautionary statement matching the correct classification. Where the container is too small, the label may be cut down to the product identifier, the supplier details, a hazard pictogram or hazard statement, and whatever else can reasonably fit. Labels must be written in English, be legible and be securely attached; other languages may be added. The duty does not apply to a container sent to a workplace precisely so the label can be affixed there. Penalty: 100 penalty units (natural person), 500 (body corporate).
