A self-employed person or employer must ensure an industrial lift truck carries lifting attachments suited to the load being lifted or moved, and is used so that risks to the operator from the systems of work and the working environment are eliminated as far as reasonably practicable or else reduced as far as reasonably practicable. Any passenger other than the operator must sit in a seat designed specifically for a passenger, fitted with suitable restraints and located inside the zone protected by the truck's operator protective device (r 112). The truck must also carry warning devices suitable to effectively alert people who may be at risk from its movement; breach of that requirement carries up to 100 penalty units (natural person) or 500 (body corporate) (r 113).
