A self-employed person or employer must, as far as reasonably practicable, eliminate or, if that is not reasonably practicable, reduce as far as reasonably practicable four risks from powered mobile plant: the plant overturning; objects falling on the operator; the operator being thrown from the plant; and the plant colliding with other powered mobile plant or with pedestrians. For the three operator risks, the employer must ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, that operator protective devices, in a suitable combination, are supplied, kept maintained and actually used, so those risks are reduced as far as reasonably practicable; this does not govern roll-over protection on wheeled tractors, which r 111 covers. No person other than the operator may ride on the plant unless, as far as reasonably practicable, that person has protection from risk equal to the operator's. Employees and any health and safety representative must be consulted on the control measures.
