When the facility appoints contractors it applies its own safety and health requirements to them and their workers, considering every type of contractor: long-term contract workers such as security staff, service providers present for short periods such as maintenance, and construction workers altering the facility or installing equipment. It includes OSH standards in contractor evaluation and selection, for example reviewing the safety and health of the contractor's own operations, communicates and coordinates with the contractor before work starts on the risks and their prevention and control measures, informs the contractor's workers of OSH risks and provides appropriate training before and during the work, includes arrangements for reporting injuries, ill health, illness and accidents among contractor workers performing its work, monitors the contractor's OSH performance on site regularly, and informs the contractor of all site OSH procedures and measures and ensures they are followed. Applies at the intermediate and highest levels (not required at the lowest level).
