Saudi Arabia Occupational Safety and Health Management Regulation 3-4-4: Procurement: documented procedures so purchases with OSH implications meet required standards and legislation, OSH impact of goods and services evaluated before purchase, OSH specifications written into tenders and contracts, workers aware of the OSH requirements for purchasing, using, storing and disposing of goods, and preferred suppliers who meet minimum OSH specifications

What does 3-4-4 require?

The facility establishes documented procedures so that procurement with OSH implications meets the required standards, including Saudi legislation. Before buying goods or services it evaluates their OSH impact by determining the safety and health risks the proposed procurement poses, how those risks will be handled, any specifications needed for safe operation or use, and the degree of compliance with the legislation in force. Where possible it writes specific OSH requirements into tender documents and contract terms before purchase, makes sure the workers concerned know the OSH requirements that apply when the goods are bought, used, stored and disposed of, including any specific legal requirements, and identifies preferred service providers able to meet at least the minimum OSH specifications for goods and services. Applies at the highest level only.
