Philippines Occupational Safety and Health Standards R1220: Rule 1220 Elevators and related equipment: sound design, construction and maintenance of every part, fully enclosed fire-resistant hoistways, the general and standards requirements for cars, doors, safeties, buffers, controls and machine rooms, and plan preparation and permits

What does R1220 require?

Each part of an elevator's structure, machinery and equipment is of good design and mechanical construction, sound material, adequate strength and free of defects, and kept in good working condition. Hoistways are substantially enclosed throughout their height with no openings other than necessary doors, windows and skylights (external hoistways enclosed at least 3 metres high and continuously on any side from which the cage can be reached), by continuous walls or substantial grilles, bars or slats that are in general fire resistant, with fire-resistant construction where a hoistway reaches the top of a building and the other provisions of Rule 1223 on pits, landings, doors and gates, car enclosures, safeties, counterweights, buffers, emergency stop switches, controls and driving machines. The standards requirements of Rule 1224 and the plan and permit requirements of Rule 1225 apply to installation, alteration and periodic inspection.
