The Rule covers portable and mobile generating units, standby units, engine-driven generators in power plants, prime movers for industrial processes and internal combustion engines in construction and agriculture (transport engines excepted), applying Chapter 2 of the PSME Code and Rule 1060 as the minimum for installation, plan checking and inspection. The Regional Labor Office inspects, with the owner's representative and the supervising plant mechanical engineer, during foundation construction and installation, before the engine enters service, before service after modification and periodically at intervals of not more than twelve months, the owner preparing the engine and surroundings on notice and the inspector checking foundation cracks, noise, vibration, exhaust, guarding and the other items of Rule 1182. Engine rooms and buildings meet Rule 1183 (ventilation, exhaust, fuel storage, clearances, fire protection), installation plans are prepared under Rule 1184 and portable or mobile engines follow Rule 1185.
