Unfired pressure vessels (closed vessels other than boilers holding steam, hot water, gas or air, excluding portable gas cylinders) follow the permit, application and inspection provisions of Rule 1162 with the vessel in place of the boiler. Construction materials, fittings and attachments meet the Rule 1162.01 standards, vessels are designed for their intended use and local conditions, each is accompanied by the manufacturer's certificate of technical specifications, locally fabricated vessels need a permit application with designs in five copies, installation leaves all parts accessible for inspection, safety valves on vessels fed from an outside source protect the system against over-pressure, installation plans follow Rule 1168, and the permissible working pressure is reduced to keep a factor of safety of at least five when inspection shows deterioration. Liquefied petroleum gas vessels and other cylinders, closed and open steam-heated vessels, water and air pressure tanks, refrigeration tanks and compressors follow Rules 1173 to 1179.
