Every moving part of a prime mover or transmission equipment, and every dangerous part of driven machinery, is effectively guarded unless their construction or location prevents contact. When ordering machinery the employer specifies that every dangerous part comes with the protective devices the safety rules require, manufacturers, vendors and lessors deliver machinery so equipped, and employers and installers ensure new machinery is properly guarded. No person removes or defeats a safeguard unless authorised and the machine is stopped for immediate repair or adjustment, warning signs in standard colours are posted at a machine under repair, and guards are reinstalled before the machine is used. Standard machinery guards are built as Rule 1203 prescribes, point-of-operation guards follow Rule 1204, transmission machinery (shafting, pulleys, belts, gears, flywheels) is guarded under Rule 1205, woodworking machinery under Rule 1206 and mechanical, foot and hand power presses under Rule 1207.
