Chapter 17: Maintenance and operational management – NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition)

NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition) 17.22-17.28: Visual inspection feedback, planned preventive maintenance, audits and condition-based replacement

Staff should be encouraged to report early warnings (temperature, noise, vibration, smell, status lights, gauges), including unauthorised extension leads in Group 1 and 2 locations. A planned preventive maintenance programme should be based on knowledge of the network and services supported and set frequency, content, skills and impact on care, defining permits or limitations of access. Maintenance audits should show whether statutory obligations are met and drive improvement. Test results, condition observations, performance and parts replaced should be recorded; task completion recorded and repeated non-completions reviewed and reported to management; records kept for trend analysis and used to inform replacement schedules.
