Chapter 17: Maintenance and operational management – NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition)

NHS England HTM 06-01 Electrical Services Supply and Distribution (2017 Edition) 17.102-17.105: UPS functional tests at least six-monthly and full service tests

UPS, inverter and battery functional tests should be done at most every six months, including physical testing of connected alarms, verifying transfer from rectifier to battery within 0.5 s and static switch operation within 0.5 s on inverter fault, and no-break performance where required. Self-diagnostic tests can supplement. Full-service tests should show batteries hold charge on bypass, test the UPS on line with mains disconnected monitoring discharge voltage and current over at least 10 minutes, observe recharge, verify rectifier, inverter, static and bypass switches, tighten connections and verify waveforms.
