Chapter 5: Emergency power supply: energy sources, converters and accessories – NFPA 110-2025 Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems

NFPA 110-2025 Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems 5.6.4.3-5.6.4.5: 5.6.4.3 to 5.6.4.5 Starting batteries: number, size and type

Each battery-started prime mover needs the battery units of Table 5.6.4.2 on their own racks, sized to keep the maker's cranking speed through two complete crank limiter time-outs. Permitted chemistries now reach beyond NiCd and lead-acid to NiZn, Li-ion and other storage technology proven for cranking; lead-acid units are supplied charged unless dry, vented NiCd units filled with flame-arrester caps, batteries are installed only after the charger is working, are designed for this duty, acceptable to the AHJ, and prepared per the battery maker. Level 1 batteries need manufacturer certification.
