Chapter 5: Emergency power supply: energy sources, converters and accessories – NFPA 110-2025 Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems

NFPA 110-2025 Standard for Emergency and Standby Power Systems 5.2.1: 5.2.1 Energy converters: general and prototype provisions

Energy converters are limited to the EPS types in 5.2.4. Level 1 converters must be representative products built from components proven compatible and reliable and coordinated to work as a unit; fuel cell systems used at Level 1 must be listed or field labeled. The converter's ability to ride through common and abnormal load-circuit disturbances without damage must be demonstrable by prototype tests, component supplier tests or listing tests. A prototype unit may serve a Level 2 installation only if its tests did it no harm and the AHJ, owner and user are told.
