ISO 14090:2019 7.3.4: Assess options over the lifespan of the decision's consequences and match capability to it

What does 7.3.4 require?

The organisation assesses adaptation options across the expected lifespan of the consequences of each decision: where consequences last under ten years a low decision-making capability usually suffices because cause and effect are plain, between ten and twenty years a medium capability is needed, and at twenty years or more a high capability is needed because much of the climate impact is unknowable. It is recommended to hold decision capability matched to the complexity of the decision, to recognise that consequences often outlast the planning horizon, to decide collaboratively, and for long-lived decisions to consider the interested parties affected, determine the capability both it and they need, design improvement strategies for any capability gap and review decisions alongside other interdependent decisions.
