Clause 7: Adaptation planning – ISO 14090:2019

ISO 14090:2019 7.3.2-3: Draw on the full range of adaptation actions and decision approaches

What does 7.3.2-3 require?

The organisation can choose from soft measures that build adaptive capacity (behaviour change, new knowledge, embedding climate change in policy and procedures, training, insurance, early warning, standards, awareness, land-use planning) and hard measures, whether grey (structures such as defences or passive cooling) or green (ecosystem-based measures), used together; actions may be incremental extensions of accepted practice or transformational step changes, including relocating activities or infrastructure, changing products or changing sourcing. Decision approaches that cope well with projection uncertainty include pathway-based and adaptive policy methods, decision mapping and robust decision-making; cost-benefit, multi-criteria, cost-effectiveness or real options analysis, a systems approach, scenario planning and the judgement of experts or interested parties can also be used.
