Treating interrelated processes as a system that is identified, understood and managed makes the project more effective and efficient, because planned processes can be coordinated and kept compatible and their interfaces clearly defined. A project consists of processes that are planned, interrelated and dependent on each other; the project organization controls them by defining and connecting the processes required and managing them together as one system that fits the originating organization's wider system. Who holds responsibility and authority for each of the project's processes, as between the project organization and the other relevant interested parties (the originating organization among them), should be clearly decided and recorded. The project organization should make sure that communication processes exist and that information passes among the project's processes and between the project, the originating organization and other relevant projects.
