South Australia adds an objective, functional statement and SA H5P3: the space between buildings must be wide enough to allow access for inspection and maintenance so that rubbish cannot accumulate and bridge termite barriers, harbour vermin or create a fire hazard. The Deemed-to-Satisfy route SA H5D4 requires every part of an external wall to be at least 600 mm from any allotment boundary (unless on or abutting it) and from the external wall of any other building on the allotment (unless the buildings abut), except where the space between external columns is not infilled.
