The person with management or control of a lift (including maintenance) ensures that where a person could fall down a lift well, secure barriers prevent access to openings by anyone other than those working in the well and secure platforms protect those working in it; that secure barriers protect people in the well from falling objects so far as reasonably practicable; that there is a safe means of entry and exit at the base of the lift well; and that a sign stating the design safe working load is fixed prominently in the lift.
