Guardrails give effective fall prevention at roof edges; edges of mezzanines, walkways, stairways, ramps and landings; on top of plant and structures where access is needed; around floor and roof openings; and at shafts, pits and excavations. They should have a top rail 900 to 1100 mm above the working surface, a mid-rail and a toe-board, and the system, its attachment and supporting structure should withstand the applied loads, which grow with the momentum of a falling person (for example with steeper roof pitch).
