Workboxes designed to be suspended from cranes must be design registered before use. When used, the workbox should be designed to AS 1418.17 and fitted with an anchorage able to take the fall forces in AS/NZS 1891.4; where a person could fall from height they must be attached to the anchorage by harness and lanyard unless the box is fully enclosed; workers stay inside while lifted or suspended; except in an emergency they do not enter or leave an elevated box unless AS 2550.1 section 6.19.3 conditions are met; and directions to the crane operator should come from the box by a person holding a dogging or rigging licence. The crane should have a means to lower the box safely in an emergency or power failure, be stabilised while the box is used, and use drive up and drive down controls on hoisting and luffing, with no free fall declutching.
