Controls must be maintained after introduction. Actions to keep them effective include giving managers and supervisors authority and resources and clear accountability; scheduling inspection, testing, repair or replacement of plant and equipment and checking controls suit the nature and duration of the work; maintaining training and competence for new and existing workers; checking for updated hazard information from manufacturers and suppliers and new technology, and updating controls when operating conditions change; and regular review of work procedures with consultation. Maintenance that uncovers new or unaddressed hazards triggers a review of controls.
