Section 4: Step 3, control risks – Australia Model Code of Practice: How to Manage Work Health and Safety Risks

Australia Model Code of Practice: How to Manage Work Health and Safety Risks 4.1c: 4.1 Substitute, isolate or apply engineering controls where elimination is not practicable

Where elimination is not reasonably practicable, risks must be minimised so far as reasonably practicable using substitution (for example water-based instead of solvent-based paint, or giving workers control over line speed), isolation by distance or barriers (guardrails, remote control of machinery, fume cabinets, barriers or online service where violence is a risk) and engineering controls, which are physical devices or processes (trolleys and hoists, machine guards, residual current devices, set work rates, noise dampening, fit-for-purpose IT systems).
