Section 4: Step 3, control risks – Australia Model Code of Practice: How to Manage Work Health and Safety Risks

Australia Model Code of Practice: How to Manage Work Health and Safety Risks 4.1e: 4.1 Provide suitable PPE as the last layer and train people to use it

Remaining risk must be minimised with suitable PPE such as ear muffs, respirators, masks, hard hats, gloves, aprons and eyewear, which works only if worn and used correctly. Under WHS Regulation 44, PPE must be selected to minimise risk, suitable for the work and hazard, of suitable size and fit and reasonably comfortable, and must be maintained, repaired and replaced so it stays clean, hygienic and in good working order. Where the PCBU directs the work it must provide information, training and instruction on correct use, storage and maintenance. The worker must use it as trained and not misuse or damage it.
